Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. founded in 1999,is a wholly owned subsidiary of China CSSC Holding Ltd., a publicly listed company controlled by China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC). The company wholly owns Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding and Offshore Co., Ltd. (SWS Offshore), and holds Shanghai Jiangnan Changxin Heavy Industry Co., Ltd.(SCH), Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding and Offshore Engineering Design Co, Ltd.(SWS Engineering), and Shanghai CSSC Marine Boiler Co., Ltd., which also takes shares of Shanghai Jiangnan Changxing Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. (SCS).
The total deliveries of the 170,000 DWT and 200,000 DWT Bulk Carriers built by SWS have occupied 11.3% of the global Capesize Bulk Carrier Fleet. The total deliveries of 300,000 DWT VLCCs cover 8.3% of the whole VLCC fleet in the world. In the offshore field, the company has delivered 150,000 DWT FPSO, 170,000 DWT FPSO, 300,000 DWT FPSO and the 6th generation 3000 meters Deepwater Submersible Drilling Rig named as "HAI YANG SHI YOU 981". The offshore products under construction include JU2000E and CJ46 Jack-up Drilling rigs, which indicated SWS has had the ability to construct Jack-up Drilling rigs in series.
Since 2005, SWS has been ranking the top for consecutive 8 years in terms of both shipbuilding output and economic efficiency in Chinese shipbuilding industry. In 2011, with delivering 36 vessels, SWS became the first shipyard in China whose annual shipbuilding capacity is over 8 million DWT, and was crowned as "No. 1 Shipbuilding Company in China"

Shanghai Jiangnan Changxing Heavy Industry Co., Ltd. (SCH) was founded in 2006, which is a subsidiary of CSSC. In 2013, SWS acquired and held her 36% shares becoming her largest shareholder. The main products of the company include large Ore Carriers, LNGs, VLGC, large and extra-large container ships, and large offshore engineering facilities. Taking the container ships as the major products, SCH has constructed the types of 16,000 TEU, 9,400 TEU, 8,530 TEU, 4,700 TEU, and 4,600 TEU, who has been known as "The Construction Center of Container Ships in China".
SHANGHAI WAIGAOQIAO SHIPBUILDING AND OFFSHORE CO., LTD (SWS OFFSHORE)
Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding and Offshore Co., Ltd (SWS OFFSHORE) was founded in 2007, which is a wholly owned subsidiary of Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. (SWS). Taking the offshore products as the main business target, the company is able to construct the PSVs, OSVs, offshore modules, living quarters, as well as the special steel structures. Since its foundation, SWS Offshore has engineered and constructed the jack case and jack up legs, Platform Supply Vessels (PSV) and mini LNGs.
Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding and Offshore Engineering Design Co., Ltd (SWS Engineering) was founded in 2002. Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding Co., Ltd (SWS) holds its 71.92% shares. The design and engineering capability of the company covers 170,000 DWT and 200,000 DWT Capesize Bulk Carriers, large and extra-large Container Ships, 100,000 DWT Aframax Product/Crude Oil Tankers, VLCCs, FPSOs, Jack-up Drilling rigs, deepwater submersible drilling rigs, and ultra-deepwater drill ships, as well as offshore equipments. Simultaneously, SWS Engineering also undertakes a lot of research work of Technology and Industry for National Defense and CSSC.
