
As a subsidiary of Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding Company Limited (hereinafter referred to as SWS), Shanghai Jiangnan-Changxing Shipbuilding Company Limited (hereinafter referred to as SCS) was registered on Dec. 7, 2006. It is co-invested by SWS and Baosteel Group Company (hereinafter referred to as Baosteel Group) with a registered capital of RMB¥2.309 billion among which the investment of SWS accounting for 65% while that of Baosteel Group accounting for 35%.
Situated on Changxing Island, SCS covers an area of 1,708,000m2 with a coastline stretching 1322 meters. The planned annual tonnage output is 3.32 million tons. Featuring a reasonable layout, advanced hardware facilities and a fluent inverted-U production line, its main production facilities include two dry docks among which No.1 dock is 520m-long and 76m-wide and No.2 dock is 510m-long and 106m-wide, four 600 tonnage gantry cranes and four outfitting quays. SCS has owned the capability of building various kinds of large vessels, ocean engineering and steel structure products.
SCS was put into production on May 18, 2007 and its product catalog covers 76,000 DWT Panamax bulk carrier, 297,000 DWT VLCC, 177,000 DWT and 176,000 DWT Cape bulk carrier and so on. In 2008, its first complete production year, SCS has achieved its target of 6 deliveries, 1.1 million DWT high and a profit of RMB¥400 million. Especially the first 297,000 DWT VLCC, and it’s the heaviest tanker ever built in Shanghai, the first VLCC that China has its own intellectual property, which has greatly enhanced the competitiveness and renown of SCS on both domestic and international shipping market.
Focusing on management, technique and technological innovation and supported by the integrated management of SWS, SCS has been continuously optimizing its production organization system, improving its production planning, quality control, safety management and precision management, developing the shipbuilding information management system, perfecting its modern shipbuilding mode with lean production as the core and insisting on an idea of "people first" to develop a staff team of high quality and constantly enhance its overall competition power.
